US Laws: US Two States are Close to Allowing Cryptotax Payments
  • Arizona and Wyoming are vying to be the first US states that allow crypto-based tax payments.
  • Legal setbacks are facing the Arizona and Wyoming crypto bills.
  • “#ReduceCryptoTax’’ trends on Twitter (NYSE:).

Two US states could soon be the first to allow crypto payments to their tax bills.

Legislators in Arizona and Wyoming are looking at legislation to allow taxpayers the ability to use cryptocurrencies for their tax payments. The Arizona proposal would have the state acknowledge “as a legal tender to pay debts, public charges, and dues.”

Wyoming’s bill however would not allow for crypto token payments to be used in sales or use taxes. However, unlike Arizona’s bill, Wyoming’s legislation won’t be restricted to cryptocurrency.

Jared Polis the Governor of Colorado, emphasized his desire to be a pioneer in crypto acceptance. In an interview, Polis took pride in Colorado’s crypto innovations and stated that Colorado is one of the earliest states to adapt to the crypto trend.

Two legal issues are facing the crypto proposal. The first is that Arizona law says creating a legal tender for crypto would be against the Constitution. This is because states are prohibited from issuing their money. Second, crypto is classified as property by the Internal Revenue Services, and not currency. Tokens can only be used to pay the taxes that crypto has imposed on citizens.

However, US citizens from Arizona and Wyoming should be able to expect approval within a year.

In other news, crypto enthusiasts on Twitter have been trending “#ReduceCryptoTax”, which calls to slash the current 30% tax on crypto transfers.

Nischal Shaetty, founder of WazirX and CEO, stated in a tweet that his team was already raising issues regarding the crypto tax legislation.

Shetty further stressed that they have always “highlighted” the reduction of the 30% crypto tax for low-income earners in their presentations to the government and urges crypto enthusiasts to speak up regarding the issue, starting the hashtag “#ReduceCryptoTax”. This initiative aims at attracting the attention of Indian authorities as well as decision-makers.
