Amazon is turning one of its virtual entities into a reality — once again.
This month the online giant of ecommerce was founded announcedAmazon Style, a brick-and mortar fashion shopfront measuring 30,000 square feet, will be launched sometime between 2022 and 2023. The storefront will be situated in Los Angeles’ The Americana mall near traditional retailers like Nordstrom and J. Crew, Urban Outfitters and H&M.
Amazon has not yet ventured into brick-and–mortar space. It owns and runs Amazon Go convenience store chain. Amazon 4-star,Amazon Books is a chain of bookstores. Whole Foods Market is a wholesaler.
According to the company, the Amazon Style floor will only feature one of each product for sale — much like a typical shoe store. The accompanying app will allow customers to scan the item’s QR code and request different sizes, colors or other details. Customers can pick up their items at a counter or fitting room with touchscreens.
Simoina Vasen is the managing director of Amazon Style. She stated that she wants to present more styles, “without customers having to search through racks for the right color, size or fit,” CNBC last month.
This is a bold idea. According to renderings by the company, here’s how it will look:
Retail and ecommerce mixed together
Amazon offers many items from a variety of fashion labels on its website. This new shopfront will be able to select and pick its stock more carefully.
According to company announcements, the store will sell apparel, shoes, and accessories that have been selected and influenced by fashion curators as well as feedback received from millions. Although it noted that customers will be able to shop at the store, they won’t identify any particular designers.
Amazon will install touchscreen screens in fitting rooms to allow shoppers to rate products and request different sizes or styles.
