AmazonTuesday filed a lawsuitTwo companies were alleged to have acted as fake review brokers.

AppSally, and Rebatest are accused of inciting fake Amazon reviews in lawsuits that were filed at King County Superior Court. In exchange for positive reviews of products, the companies connected third-party vendors with customers.

Amazon’s most recent effort is represented by the case root out fake reviewsAmazon’s vast third-party marketplace. This marketplace accounts for over half of Amazon’s e-commerce revenue and has greatly helped the company. bring in record revenue. However, fake reviews have provenAmazon has found this to be an especially difficult issue as it now includes millions of merchants from third parties.

Amazon claimed it filed these complaints to try and “shutdown two major fake review brokerages.” It claims that its members tried to mislead shoppers “by having them post fake reviews on Amazon.” eBay, Walmart Etsy. AppSally claims that they have “more than 900,000.” Users who are willing to leave fake reviews, according to Rebatest.

Rebatest has declined to comment. AppSally representatives did not respond to my request for comment.

According to court filings, AppSally and REbatest were in existence since 2018. AppSally is accused of orchestrating a scheme in which sellers paid a small fee to the company, sometimes as low as $25 for “verified reviews.”

AppSally would provide a link to the product and sellers would send empty boxes. AppSally would also receive photos for inclusion in a review. The service was allegedly paid for by sellers in the hopes that Amazon would rank their product higher. According to the complaint, AppSally’s website promised that sellers would be “able to outrank your competitors in your bedroom.”

Rebatest also offered sellers reviews and other services that could be used to influence their product ranking, according to the lawsuit. Amazon users would make an order and write a review. According to Rebatest, a user’s purchase was refunded by PayPal.

Amazon has filed both the complaints seeking unspecified damages as well as an order from the companies to stop them selling and facilitating the sales of Amazon reviews.

Amazon takes many steps to cut down fraud and fake reviews. Amazon has also requested assistance from other social media platforms, since fake reviews have been appearing in Facebook groups as well as messaging apps such WhatsApp, Telegram and WeChat.
