AstraZeneca chairman to retire in 2023, search for successor underway -Breaking

(Reuters) -AstraZeneca announced Tuesday that its chairman non-executive Leif Johansson will step down next year after the Anglo-Swedish drugmaker has held an annual general meeting. He had served in this role for 11 years.

At the time Pascal Soriot, Chief Executive Officer, took over, Soriot, a 70-year old Swedish businessman, was elected chairman. According to Soriot, succession planning has already started for Johansson in a interview with Financial Times last May.

On Tuesday, the company stated that it was continuing to search for a replacement chair.

AstraZeneca (NASDAQ 🙂 asked Johansson in 2012 to keep his position as overseer of its recently-completed acquisition for $39B Alexion, which is a rare disease medicine maker.

AstraZeneca stated in a statement that “The Board believes it is in the shareholders’ best interests for Mr Johansson seek re-election in April 2022, and continue as Chair for one more year.”
