SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters), A former Tesla (NASDAQ;) construction manager is suing the company, claiming he was terminated for reporting numerous safety violations and race discrimination in Tesla’s factories.
Marc Cage, an African American man, filed the suit with Alameda County Superior Court. He claimed that Marc Cage had reported safety violations which could have led to massive explosions in Tesla’s Nevada factory and systematic failures to inform the company about serious work-related injuries.
“Tesla’s commitments to unrealistic production goals and frantic efforts to ramp up its production, often to make good on rash promises, overrode any commitment to employee safety,” the complaint says.
He also claimed that Tesla employees harassed, and even denigrated, him on account of his race.
“Virtually every restroom in Tesla’s Fremont facility contained writings or carvings of racist symbols and slurs, including swastikas and prominent displays of the n-word,” Cage said in his complaint.
Tesla has not yet responded to my request for comment regarding the lawsuit.
Tesla was sued by the California State Agency earlier this month over claims made by Black workers about being subjected racist remarks and drawings, as well as having been assigned to the most demanding job at Tesla’s Fremont, California factory.
Tesla claimed that the lawsuit was misguided. It stated that the company had tolerated racial disparity, in addition to other claims against the most important automaker in the world.
Tesla and Elon Musk have intensified their fight with regulators. These have examined his social media posts as well as the company’s treatment for its employees and tested semi-automated driver systems on public roads.
Musk accused the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Tuesday of being a corrupt onion with many layers. Musk had previously accused the US Securities and Exchange Commission of leakage from an investigation into Tesla.
Tesla revealed earlier in the month that the SEC had subpoenaed it about compliance with the 2018 settlement relating to Musk’s tweets regarding taking Tesla private.
Musk and the company accused the SEC last week of harassing them. They also claimed that the investigation was being conducted to punish Musk’s outspoken criticism of the government.
