BEAUMONT (Reuters) – Union workers who have been locked out at a Texas oil refinery since nearly ten months voted Monday for an acceptance vote. Exxon Mobil A union official stated that Corp (NYSE) has offered a contract.

Exxon stated that it will end the lockout if union members either ratify its offer, or agree to be removed by the United Steelworkers (USW), local 13-243, as bargaining agent for Beaumont’s Texas refinery.

Exxon stated that the approximately 650 hourly employees at the Mobil 1 oil plant and 369,024 barrel per-day (bpd), refinery were fired May 1 in order to prevent a wildcat striking. Managers and temporary employees have continued to work at the facility since.

However, details about the total were not available immediately.

Exxon will now be able to complete all assignments as per the contract approved. The issue led to an October vote of no confidence. One quarter of previous assignments had been determined by worker experience. Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be added to the contract as a vacation.

It remains to be determined whether the USW would continue to represent workers in the hourly shifts of the plant. A vote on a proposal to eliminate the USW was conducted by the U.S. National Labor Relations Board, which was supported by 30% of members.

If it was accepted, the union will cease to represent the plant’s workers for the first time since World War II. While the NLRB investigates USW labor practice allegations alleging Exxon started the lockout to eliminate the union, the results have not been released.
