Estee Lauder reportedly suspends exec John Demsey over Instagram post

New York-based cosmetics firm Estee LauderJohn Demsey was suspended as executive president of the group following an Instagram posting that contained a racist slur. the Wall Street Journal.

According to the Journal, the social media posting was removed from Demsey’s account. It featured a mock book cover for “Sesame Street” and included the N-word as well as jokes about Covid-19.

CNBC reached John Demsey, Estee Lauder, and John Demsey but could not be reached immediately.

The executive celebrated 30 years of service at Estee Lauder last May. Demsey oversaw Clinique and Mac brands, but was fired without pay. According to the report, the duration of the suspension was not known.

Estee Lauder stock closed Wednesday lower at $290.93/share, or 1.61%.
