U.S. senator to stop delays on some Biden nominees after Nord Stream shift -Breaking

WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – Republican Senator Ted Cruz announced Wednesday that he will lift President Joe Biden’s hold on nominees for the State Department now that the Democrat has lifted his waiver of sanctions against the company responsible for Nord Stream 2 Pipeline.

Cruz has stopped the Senate from confirming dozens of Biden nominees. This is due to a Senate rule which requires approval by every senator for fast votes. A senator may deny unanimous consent to force the Senate’s approval of nominees that are not controversial to spend hours in the Senate.

After it acknowledged two regions within eastern Ukraine that were considered to be independent, the Biden administration imposed new sanctions against Nord Stream 2 AG and its chief executive.

Following Biden’s announcement, Cruz made a statement saying that he would release his restrictions on “certain” nominations. The request for additional details from Cruz’s aides was not met immediately.

“President Biden made the right decision today. Cruz explained that allowing Nord Stream 2 (Russian President Vladimir Putin’s) to go online would have led to multiple and complex security crises for both the United States of America and allies in Europe for many generations.
