An estimated 50,000 people are expected to run in November.
In 2020, this race was cancelled due to COVID-19. The race has been rescheduled last year with a lower field of runners, 30,000, and several safety protocols.
Ted Metellus, New York City Marathon Race Director said that the marathon was an “uplifting and unifying moment in New York City’s rehabilitation as well symbolizing renewed hope and inspiration.”
“This November, we are excited to have runners from all over the world fully return as we come together to deliver one of the best days in New York.”
Organisers stated that this year’s race, which is scheduled for Nov. 6, requires all runners to have their vaccines up-to-date. Many elements of the event will be reinstated, including entertainment on the course.
Runs of 26.2-miles (42.16km) through five boroughs of the city are a popular part of a celebration that spans the entire city.
