BRUSSELS, (Reuters) – The European Union will impose additional sanctions against Russia that target industry, financial sector and export control in response to Moscow’s invasion Ukraine, a diplomat from the EU said Thursday.
“We want to get the maximum package that targets industrial sectors, export control and financials,” the diplomat added, noting that EU sanctions will target Russian oligarchs especially those close to President Vladimir Putin.
After Russian forces attacked Ukraine in an indiscriminate assault on land, water, and air, the emergency summit of EU leaders will take place at 1900 GMT.
