(Reuters) – General Motors (NYSE) aims at increasing its non-vehicle revenues by introducing dozens new, fee-based digital features before 2026. One such feature allows a car’s ability to anticipate when it will require maintenance.
Steve Carlisle (president of GM North America), stated that there are 50 value-added services and products we will be releasing over the next 36-48 months.
Carlysle claimed that GM’s OnStar unit offers both insurance and driver concierge services. It generates approximately $32 per month for each customer.
The Ultifi software platform and connectivity platform from GM will help support these new digital products. Ultifi will also allow for over-the-air updates and assist passengers and drivers with online shopping tasks.
Carlysle stated that some digital features were designed to make the most of bigger displays than GM’s GMC Hummer EV and Chevrolet Silverado EV.
He said that “the larger screens in our EVs will allow us to deliver more data-oriented software products for the customers.”
He stated that GM will be looking at flexible pricing options for a range of these digital features including lifetime, annual, and monthly subscriptions.
Mary Barra announced in October that GM would double its annual revenues to $280 billion. This plan includes the introduction of data-driven products and services.
