The metaverse is a virtual place where you can live, work, and play.

It doesn’t yet exist so it is essentially science fiction. However, there are early versions of the metaverse and companies are already trying to create them.

Decentraland, which is a browser-based metaverse, offers one way for users to explore, create and trade from a computer.

Decentraland users create an avatar which they can then navigate around the virtual world using a mouse and keyboard — something that isn’t exactly intuitive for non-gamers.

Decentraland is the first place an avatar can be created. It has been recognized as the largest and most important metaverse project in the world. The avatar lands in a kind of atrium, where it appears that clouds are gliding along the floor. A pool with a disturbing vortex is located in its middle.

Samsung

Samsung had an earlier event in Decentraland this month. didn’t quite go to plan.

This event took place specifically in Samsung 837XSamsung’s virtual building on Decentraland is called “Decentraland”, and it was designed as a replication of its New York flagship experience center.

CNBC was not able to locate the 837X building.

Samsung sent an email statement to CNBC stating that the “visitors” and Decentraland communities had provided a very positive response. He viewed it as a fresh approach into an all digital world.

The team added that “Unfortunately, some people were unable to access the event due to a technical problem in Decentraland’s realms.” We immediately notified the community through Twitter about the problem and directed our visitors to the new entry.

JPMorgan

JPMorgan was also the first U.S. bank that opened a virtual space within the metaverse. It chose to use Decentraland like Samsung and set up a lounge that clients could interact with the metaverse.

It is home to a “Onyx”, or lounge as it’s known. This space has both a roaming tiger, and a floating portrait by Jamie Dimon (JPMorgan CEO).

Some people had difficulty finding the area. It is located in the Decentraland area. Twitter user “Where is it?” wrote one. One user described it as “cringe.”

JPMorgan also published the whitepaper “The Lounge” in addition to this lounge.Opportunities in the metaverse: how businesses can explore the metaverse and navigate the hype vs. reality.”

The whitepaper reads: “When you think about the economics of the metaverse — or metanomics — there are opportunities in almost every market area.”

Imagine that you own an avatar online. You want to modify it/it. After browsing the virtual showroom, you can purchase limited-edition clothing digitally customized for you. You could also start your own business such as an online art gallery that displays your best collections or a private club.

Gucci

Gucci hosted a 2-week-long art installation on Roblox in May 2021. This gaming platform has been called another early metaverse.

It was an imitation of a real-world Florence installation.

The digital Gucci products were available for purchase, so visitors could dress up their genderless avatars.

Visitors would see their avatars “absorbing” the various aspects of each place as they navigated through virtual space.

Coca-Cola

Also, July 2021 Coca-ColaTafi 3D Creators partnered to organize an auction for virtual “loot box” NFTs in special editions.

Participants were able to bid on a Coke-Cola Friendship Box, a digital copy of the iconic Coke vending machine during the event.

Each package contained different NFT (non-fungible token)Surprises include a Coca-Cola Bubble Jacket Wearable that avatars can wear on Decentraland

The Sound Visualizer was another option. It used the sound of an open bottle and then a pouring over ice to attract users.

PwC
