SkyTeam is an alliance of airlines that includes Aeroflot and Delta. They can both book seats for each other’s flights thanks to their alliance.
Atlanta-based Delta stated in a statement that Delta had withdrawn its codeshare services with Russian national airline Aeroflot. We have taken Aeroflot’s code out of Aeroflot-operated flights beyond Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport, and Aeroflot’s from Delta-operated Delta services departing from Los Angeles or New York-JFK. Customers affected by the changes will receive accommodation.
Delta doesn’t fly to Russia and Ukraine.
SkyTeam didn’t immediately respond to a question about Aeroflot being removed from the alliance.
Codeshare agreements enable airlines to offer seats to other destinations than their airline. These agreements are often used by airlines to offer customers a wider international reach.
