Ford to halt F-150 pickup output in Kansas City due to chip shortage -Breaking

(Reuters) -Ford Motor Co announced Friday that it would stop production at Kansas City’s assembly plant, which produces F-150 pickup trucks for a week because of global semiconductor shortages.

Ford will maintain operation of Dearborn’s F-150 manufacturing plant, according to the automaker.

Ford’s F-150, which is Ford’s most popular vehicle, together with large-utility vehicles and vans, makes up the majority of its global profits.

Ford had earlier in February stated that some of its plants would remain idle during week 14 of the semiconductor bottlenecks.

Worldwide shortages of semiconductors have forced many automakers to abandon certain features in order to meet demand.

Ford shares closed at 4% higher Friday after more than doubling in value in the past year. The market recovered for the second day following the dramatic selloff that followed Russia’s invasion in Ukraine.
