Russia could resume westbound gas deliveries to Europe via its Yamal pipeline Friday, after two months of backflows, according auction data.
A section of the pipeline’s gas has flowed eastward from December 21st, as Polish buyers opted to draw on existing supply from Germany and not buy more Russian gas at higher spot prices. [NG/EU]
According to Gaz-System data, Russian gas producer Gazprom has received a capacity of 6.4 Million Kilowatt-hours per Hour (kWh/h). This was via Kondratki transit points. It is available from Friday at 1500 GMT (1400 GMT) until Saturday morning.
Gascade, a German operator, reported that there were bids from the same quantity via the Mallnow transit port to Germany.
Gazprom, which booked westbound capacity in February but never used it, does not guarantee that deliveries to the west will resume.
The pipeline typically accounts for around 15% of Russia’s westbound supplies of gas to Europe, Turkey and Europe.
UKRAINE
A data show that Russia also increased its supply of Ukraine to Europe, which is consistent with the previous statistics.
The Thursday increase in the number of bids to supply Slovakia via Ukraine’s Velke Kapusany borderpoint was 796,815MWh (compared with 622,676MWh on Thursday).
Refinitiv analysts pointed out that it is now cheaper to purchase Russian pipeline gas on the spot than it was to do so due to an increase in oil prices.
TTF Hub contract Dutch for March was at 27.43 euro, but it was still very high at 108.57 EUR per megawatthour (MWh). Friday afternoon.
On Friday, the Eastbound Supply to Poland through Germany via Mallnow was at 2.92,000,000 Kilowatthours (kWh/h), an increase of around 700,000 from the previous day.
The gas prices from Germany to Poland should remain the same until Saturday morning, unless the pipeline moves to its westbound normal mode.
Gazprom can order pipeline capacity via daily auctions but has yet to place any transit capacity orders for the February and March routes.
The company did not reserve capacity in the second or third quarters of this year, and it does not plan to sell spot gas on its electronic platform for sale.
