WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – A well-known senator Republican stated Saturday that his party wouldn’t be able to continue to lead after the November midterm elections unless they were willing to accept his controversial agenda. This has angered some Republicans and been criticized by Democrats.

Senator Rick Scott from Florida is the chairperson of the National Republican Senatorial Committee. He told a crowd of conservatives in Orlando that his “Rescue America”, 11-point plan to save the country was needed against an attack of “woke” left-leaning policies.

Scott announced his plan earlier in the week. It includes plans to impose income taxes upon Americans who don’t currently pay any and mandate that federal legislation be repealed after five years.

Scott said that “If Republicans get back to Washington’s business as usual and if our plan is to simply be a speed bump along the road to America’s collapse, then we don’t really deserve to govern.”

Scott stated that Scott’s plan will be mocked and ridiculed on the left by Washington insiders, as well as causing fear among some Republicans. Scott said, “This isn’t the time to be timid. “This is the right time to be bold.”

This puts McConnell at odds with Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell. McConnell has not issued a legislative plan to try and focus Republicans’ criticisms on President Joe Biden, his Democratic allies.

The Senate currently is split 50-50 with Democrats controlling the majority. This is because Kamala Harris, Vice President of Kamala Harris has a tie-breaking voting vote. Republicans need the support of independent voters to regain the majority. Party strategists worry that Scott’s proposal could distract from their efforts.

Scott spokeswoman Chris Hartline claimed that Scott is pushing this plan alone and not in the capacity of head of Senate Republican campaign arm.
