(Reuters) – Meta Platforms Inc. has restricted accounts in Ukraine at the request from the Ukrainian government. It also included accounts belonging to Russian media outlets, said Nick Clegg the head of global affairs.
The Ukrainians also recommended that Russia be blocked from accessing Facebook (NASDAQ) and Instagram. Clegg stated in another tweet that people in Russia use FB and IG for protest, organization and independent information.
According to him, the Russian government had already blocked Meta’s platform in an effort to stop these activities. He stated that shutting down its services would silence important expressions at crucial times.
