Phil Mickelson, his foundation and two corporate endorsements were already out. They were therefore removed from Saturday’s PGA Tour event at the California desert. This was in response to his scandalous remarks and participation in a Saudi-funded league.

According to The Desert Sun, Palm Springs, California’s newspaper, The American Express will no longer have The Mickelson Foundation its primary charitable arm and Mickelson will no longer be hosting the tournament.

Mickelson told Alan Shipnuck by a quote that she said to Mickelson that the Saudi group behind the proposed new league were “scary mothers (expletive),s” to be involved with.

“We know they executed (Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi) and have a terrible record in human rights. “They execute gay people in that country,” Mickelson said to Shipnuck. Shipnuck’s biography of Mickelson will be available in May. Knowing all this information, I don’t know why anyone would even think about it. This is a unique opportunity to restructure the PGA Tour’s operations.

Last week, none of the 12 top players around the globe expressed an interest to join the rival league for the guaranteed riches. Mickelson gave an awkward statement Tuesday where he admitted that his comments were “reckless”, however they weren’t meant to be shared.

Greg Norman’s Golf Investments received an apology from him. He described them as visionaries who want to help golf improve.

Mickelson didn’t mention Commissioner Jay Monahan or the PGA Tour. He referred to them in Shipnuck as a “dictatorship”.

He stated that he needed to be able to take some time out in order for his priorities to align.

KPMG announced that it would immediately end its sponsorship of the major, which dates back to 2008. They said they had agreed to the change. Amstel Light said that they were ending their partnership.

Mickelson’s representation at Callaway Golf since 2004 Ryder Cup in Oakland Hills was Callaway Golf. Mickelson said that Callaway Golf is halting their relationship.

The company told Golf Digest it was “very disappointed in his choice of words — they in now way reflect Callaway’s values or what we stand for as a company.”

Workday has been sponsoring Mickelson from 2017 and told Golf Digest that it will not renew the contract at March’s end.

The American Express did not have the “elevated status” as other PGA Tour events with players as the host — Tiger Woods at the Genesis Invitational, the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Memorial run by Jack Nicklaus.

Mickelson, a twice-winner of the tournament long known for being the Bob Hope Classic, is Mickelson. Each of his three previous years, he missed the cut.
