(Reuters) – Ukrainian tennis star Dayana Yantremska fled her country during a Russian invasion. Now she is safe in France.

Yastremska won three WTA titles. Yastremska was ranked world number 21.

“Tired but my sister is safe!” She posted the following Instagram story on Saturday, showing their arrival in Romania while en route towards France.

France: “Thanks. Ukraine must continue to be strong. “We miss you, Dad and Mum.”

Yastremska posted an Instagram photo on Friday showing her and her sister sitting in luggage, wearing matching pink sweatpants.

After spending two nights underground, my parents decided at all costs to send my little sister and me out of Ukraine. She said this in a Friday post.

We love you Dad and Mom, so take good care! You are my country, I love you! Ukrainians care about your life.”

Ukraine has a strong presence in women’s tennis. There are three Ukrainians in the WTA’s top 100, and seven in the top 200. Elina Svitolina is the top-ranked Ukrainian at the world number 15 and has been vocal in her support of Ukraine.

On Saturday, thousands of people fled the invading forces of the Ukrainian invasion. Many were hoping to reach Poland, Slovakia and Romania.

Russia’s attack on Europe is the largest since World War Two. It threatens the stability of the post-Cold War European order.
