REUTERS/Mike Blake/File Photograph(Reuters] – Washington, Oregon, California will not require the use of masks in their schools starting March 11. However, they will continue to be used in high-risk environments such as hospitals and healthcare facilities.
After the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Friday that indoor masking was being allowed in most areas of the country, the announcement is made. According to the CDC, masking should be limited to areas that are high in COVID-19 transmission.
“As has been made clear time and again over the last two years, Covid-19 does not stop at state borders or county lines,” Governor Kate Brown of Oregon said in the joint statement. “Together, as we continue to recover from the Omicron surge, we will build resiliency and prepare for the next variant and the next pandemic.”
New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced Sunday that the state would end its mandate to schools and childcare centers on Wednesday. This was in response to a sharp drop in COVID-19-related cases.
