Japan’s Rakuten launches NFT marketplaceRakuten, the Japanese giant of e-commerce has launched a digital marketplace to sell collectibles.
The company announced in a Friday press release that it would be focusing its NFT platform on entertainment and sports NFTs. This includes those based on Japanese TV series and mangas.
Rakuten NFT provides users with a platform to buy and sell NFTs. It also allows for peer-to-peer selling and buying of NFTs in various areas, such as music, anime, and sports.
The NFT marketplace is also looking to become a “one-stop” platform that will allow intellectual property (IP) holders to build their own websites for the issuance and sale of digital collectibles. As per the announcement, Rakuten will launch a service for “peer-to-peer issuing and selling of NFT content” for IP holders around the globe by 2023 or at a later time.
Two NFT collections had been scheduled for live-streaming on the platform the same night as the announcement. The one that used Ultraman animation CG assets was the second. It was based on Kurogane Hiroshi Gekitoshi, a horse-racing comic (2010 Series), and featured illustrations from Hiroshi Kurogane.
Rakuten NFT, which will also produce and sell J.League’s official NFT collection. Rakuten NFT is developing the Rakuten NFT Art Gallery with original NFT artwork that Rakuten NFT has selected.
