ALMATY (Reuters – The company that provides Internet and TV services in the Kazakhstani province of Almaty, a close ally to Moscow, announced Monday that it had blocked Russian stations due to their coverage of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Remstroyservice Company, which is based in Shakhtinsk (central Kazakhstan), stated that “We are against war” and added that Kazakh state TV was being run in its place.

Although Kazakhstan did not criticize Russia for its invasion of an ex-Soviet republic, they also did not support Russia’s recognition of eastern Ukraine’s independence by recognizing the statelets that are Moscow-backed.

While the Russian rouble and the Central Asian country’s oil-exporting tenge currency were hammered Monday along with it, the number of flights in its airspace increased by three times as many Russian airlines had their planes diverted due to European bans.
