According to the report, 24 cryptocurrency exchanges have a daily average transaction volume of nearly 11.4 trillion and a profit margin of around 3.4 trillion.
Although the gains are split, 99.3% of profit comes from the four licensed cryptocurrency operators Upbit, Coinone and Bithumb. The 0.3% remaining is from national currency exchanges.
Price growth is the key factor in the market’s surge. These cryptos have seen a triple-digit increase in their prices over the last year which has attracted more investors.
Kookmin Bank, South Korea’s largest bank, is launching crypto funds and Exchange Traded Funds to boost the cryptocurrency industry. It is in the process of introducing crypto products to its asset management unit through digital market research, both at home and abroad.
South Korea generally follows strict crypto rules. In 2020, the government proposed an amendment act — Reporting and Use of Specific Financial Transaction Information.
This law, which took effect in 2021 requires that crypto service providers open real-name bank accounts for traders who are linked to a bank certified by the Act. AML and KYC requirements are also included in the act.
Many crypto exchanges, both small and large-scale, have been shut down since the amendment was passed.
Simply put, South Korea’s crypto market is booming. According to several reports, there is no sign of a slowdown in the growth.
