WASHINGTON (Reuters), President Joe Biden said Tuesday that the administration had launched a new initiative to enable Americans to have COVID-19 tests at a pharmacy. They will also receive free prescriptions if they get positive.
“We’re launching the “Test to Treat” initiative so people can get tested at a pharmacy, and if they’re positive, receive antiviral pills on the spot, at no cost,” Biden said during his State of the Union speech.
Biden added that the United States has ordered more treatments of this nature than any other country. Pfizer Inc (NYSE:) will offer the U.S. 1 million pills in March and more than double that in April. According to him, the Pfizer Pill reduces the chance of you ending up in the hospital 90%.
Previous statements by the White House indicated that they are removing requirements for fully vaccinated persons to remove masks from White House campuses. This was effective Tuesday. Federal agencies were also informed by the White House that they could drop COVID-19 restrictions requiring visitors and employees to wear masks inside federal buildings throughout much of the nation.
