China will not join sanctions against Russia, banking regulator says

BEIJING – China’s banking and insurance regulator said on Wednesday that the country opposes and will not join financial sanctions against Russia.

According to a CNBC translation, Guo Shuqing (chairman of China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission) said that everyone is paying attention to the recent conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has clearly stated China’s position. We are consistent in our international policy.”

Guo stated that financial sanctions are not supported by China. He also expressed concern about “unilateral”, which don’t address the problems. China won’t be joining such sanctions.
