Highly lethal bird flu spreads to Iowa backyard poultry flock -Breaking

CHICAGO, (Reuters) – A highly fatal form of bird flu was discovered in Iowa’s backyard flock of poultry on Wednesday. This spread a U.S.-wide outbreak to the nation’s top egg-producing states.

Iowa announced that the Iowa Department of Health will cut down the poultry in Pottawattamie County. The birds were not being raised commercially to stop the spread.

The United States has placed export restrictions on poultry products due to highly lethal bird influenza cases that have been identified at three commercial chicken farms in Indiana and Kentucky over the past month.

Iowa saw the worst-ever outbreak of bird flu in the United States, which claimed 50 million lives.
