WASHINGTON. Mar 2. (Reuters) – U.S. Democratic Rep Henry Cuellar, a moderate Democrat, was forced into a May 24-runoff election by progressive Jessica Cisneros in Texas’s 28th District.

Cuellar’s home and office were raided in January 2022 by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This raised questions about Cuellar and made it doubtful that he would be able to fend off another challenger from Cisneros of the South Texas District.

For a U.S. House of Representatives seat, the winner of the runoff in November will have to face a Republican.
