On Thursday, the United States announced new sanctions against Russian oligarchs as well their families who support Russian President Vladimir Putin in his war on Ukraine.

According to the Biden administration’s new penalties, they include visa restrictions on 19 Russian Oligarchs, their 47 relatives and close friends, as well “full blocking sanctions”, on at most eight of so-called Russian elites.

Dmitry Peskov is Putin’s press secretary and was approved earlier this week by European Union.

According to the administration, it was targeting visas as a way of “directing, authorizing, funding, significant support or carrying out malign activities in support for Russia’s destabilizing external policy.”

According to the White House’s announcement, the Treasury Department will designate “disinformation target” which includes seven Russian entities and 26 people based in Russia or Ukraine.

In a press release, the White House stated that the sanction would be applied to these individuals as well as their families. It also said that assets and property in the United States would be frozen.

Jen Psaki White House press secretary stated that the U.S. is confident in the results of new actions.

Psaki stated that “it’s not only the first step we are taking, obviously.” This is about seizing their assets, taking their yachts, and making it difficult for their children and grandchildren to go to West-European universities. These steps will have a significant impact on those who surround President Putin.

Named in the White House Release are:

  • Nikolai Tokarev, his wife Galina and daughter Mayya as well as his two luxury real-estate companies.
  • Boris Rotenberg, his wife Karina and his two sons Boris and Roman Rotenberg
  • Arkady (his sons Pavel, Igor, and his daughter Liliya).
  • Sergei Chemezov, his wife Yekaterina and Stanislav’s stepdaughter Anastasiya
  • Igor Shuvalov, his five companies, Olga his wife, Evgeny his son and their company, jet and daughter Maria
