ATLANTA (Reuters). – General contractor L.W. Boyd was using two fuel pumps at once, pumping diesel into large tanks under his Ford F150 truck. He was afraid that gasoline prices would continue to rise.
Boyd, 35, said that although this is a cut for him, he must keep his truck running if he wants to eat. His local diesel prices now being $4.39 per gallon, Boyd expected to pay over $400 to fuel his truck and two 50-gallon tanks.
Boyd’s decision to pay more for higher prices now may not work for everyone. However, many U.S. motorists and Canadians are looking at ways to save money to be able to pump record-breaking prices.

The United States and its allies have imposed sanctions on Russia in the aftermath of Russia’s invasion. These sanctions were meant to cripple Russia’s economy. Russia describes its actions against Ukraine as a “special operation.” The sanctions ripple through the global oil market and threaten economic growth by increasing gasoline prices.
John Kilduff of Again Capital in New York, stated that we will most likely top $4.50 per month. “I imagine that by Memorial Day, we would be selling $5.50 per gallon across the nation. It’s going to be very unsettling and jarring for consumers.”
RBC Capital Markets doesn’t know if this record-breaking price will lead to massive spending cuts. The previous peak of $4.11 in 2008 would have equated to $5.20 per gallon today, which is more than the current high of $5.11.
Jerome Powell, Chair of the Federal Reserve, stated last week that inflation is a factor that adds 0.1% to economic growth for every $10 rise in oil prices.
AAA reports that prices are up by about half a percent compared to a year and nearly 40 cents compared to a week ago. According to analysts, $4 per gallon is a psychological trigger that consumers use when filling up the car. This results in motorists having to pay more.
GAS PUMP BLUES
The prices are much higher in some parts of the country. California is home to the highest price per gallon at $5.34/gallon.
Miranda Krauss (43), drove from Encinitas (20 minutes) to Costco in Carlsbad to get the benefit of bulk discounters’ lower gas prices. It’s so bad that I drove all the way to Costco (NASDAQ:) in Carlsbad, California for gasoline. Krauss stated that he would not normally travel this far.
A recent Reuters/Ipsos survey of Americans found that 62% believed paying more to fuel due to the Ukrainian crisis would be worth it in order for another democratic country.
Rising prices have few solutions. Worldwide production has stagnated and Russia cannot replace its 7 million daily barrels of crude oil.
In an effort to reduce price pressure, President Joe Biden authorized the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve’s release of 30,000,000 barrels of oil. However, this amount has been matched by large-consumer economies. Oil and gas companies are unable to increase their output quickly.
Canadian consumers also struggled with high fuel costs. Courtney Burghgraef, from Brock in Durham, Ontario (about 60 miles (100 km) north Toronto), said that her four-child family has tried to reduce expenses.
Burghgraef expressed concern that gas prices will increase and food costs would rise as transportation costs to transport goods back and forth continue to rise.
Gilberto Meta (47) was filling up his GMC Yukon XL at a Phillips 66 Station in Wolfforth. The maintenance worker from northern Texas let out a deep sigh, as he saw the dollar amounts rise on the fuel gauge.
He stated, “I now spend more money on gasoline than I do on groceries.” “My wife, and I talked last week about swapping this gas guzzler out for something more efficient.
