The email didn’t indicate whether the benefit would extend to North American employees or other countries.

The Monday email, sent 12 days after Russia invaded Ukraine, praised Tesla employees for their assistance in bringing its Starlink satellite internet service, SpaceX to Ukraine, through the company’s CEO Elon Musk.

The Energy team at Tesla built and supplied lithium-ion batteries energy storage systems (known as Tesla Powerwalls) to power Starlink equipment in Ukraine.

Tesla employees used inverters and charging cables that were donated by Tesla’s certified installers in the area to assemble the Starlink-and-Powerwall systems. To power Starlink equipment, they also made AC cables out of scrap metal at Tesla’s factory outside Berlin.

Though Tesla is not a company that operates in Ukraine, Tesla stated in an e-mail to say that approximately 5,000 Tesla owners and other EV drivers could receive free charging at one of its Supercharger stations located in Poland, Hungary, or Slovakia.

Thank you, Hi Team

Tesla has always been committed to doing right. We are aware that the situation in Ukraine continues to change, but we would like to let you know what steps have been taken to assist those who were affected.

It’s amazing that many people have come to realize how they can help. We need to show people how our company is helping them, how many resources are available, and how they can support themselves. Big thanks to all of the teams that have contributed to these efforts so far – true Tesla spirit on display.

*As a priority HR EMEA team members have been connecting with employees impacted as well as their managers to ensure we check in. We’ll continue to provide targeted and meaningful support for all of our employees.

Any Tesla employee who is Ukrainian and was asked to go back to Ukraine to serve active duty in the reservists, they will be paid their salary and employment for three months. We plan to assess after that period.

*Tesla has opened free Supercharging at stations bordering Ukraine to support those impacted by the recent invasion. Tesla immediately notified local residents that Tesla could offer free Supercharging at several stations close to Ukraine. Although Tesla is not an official operator in Ukraine, Tesla’s estimated 5,000 owners have access to Supercharging stations in Poland and Slovakia for free.

*Tesla teamed up with SpaceX to provide coverage expansion for its Starlink services to help provide an alternative internet infrastructure.

*Volunteers across the Giga Berlin and Germany Service team responded quickly on Sunday to test, configure, pack and ship several hundred Starlink units which have already been gratefully received by Ukraine’s Digital Transformation Minister. It took less than three days to put the solution together, in true Tesla fashion.

*On top of this the Energy team supplemented the Starlink roll out with a fleet Powerwalls. It included premade DC cables from one of our Supercharger Installation Partners, PV inverters provided by our certified installer network and AC cables constructed out of scrap from Giga Berlin. It was assembled by 40+ volunteers, who were all from the EMEA organisation and committed to helping in any way they could.

*In addition, we have reinforced Tesla EMEA Employee Assistance Programme. It provides support, counseling, and resources for employees.

Employees can also support the cause by making donations of cash to trusted relief organisations in Ukraine. This isn’t an exhaustive list, and any donation can be made to any organization of your choosing.
