Twitter removes Russian UK Embassy tweets for Ukraine denials

TwitterTwo tweets from Russia’s Embassy in Britain were taken down by the Social Media giant on Thursday. They are related to the “denial of violent events” that occurred during Russia’s ongoing attack on Ukraine.
Russia’s ambassador claimed in one of these tweets that a pregnant lady seen in the photograph of casualties at the Mariupol children’s hospitals that were destroyed Wednesday by a Russian airstrike was actually a Ukraine beauty blogger. They suggested the photo could have been staged propaganda.
The tweet included two photos showing different women that the Embassy claimed to be the same. Twitter took down two other tweets referring to the claim, but a third tweet that referred to the claim was still online on Thursday.
The link to the tweet that said “This Tweet Violates the Twitter Rules” was later found.
According to officials from Ukraine, at least one child died and two others were seriously injured in the accident. Volodymyr Zienskyy, the Ukrainian President, tweeted that the hospital had suffered severe damage. He also included video footage.
CNBC received an email from a Twitter spokesperson stating that they had taken enforcement action against tweets referenced by CNBC because they violated the Twitter Rules. Hateful ConductAnd Abusive BehaviorPolicies related to the denial or suppression of violent events
CNBC requested comments from both the Russian Embassy in Washington and a spokesperson at Russia’s Embassy in Washington.
In a Twitter that is still online, the Russian Embassy in Geneva stated that Mariupol’s hospital had been attacked by the Ukrainian paramilitary group. They were using it as their headquarters and firing at the Russian military with #HumanShields. This post was retweeted by the UK Embassy.
Earlier Thursday, the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human RightsAccording to reports, Russia has invaded Ukraine and killed 549 civilians. Of these 41 were children.
According to the office, 957 civilians are still injured from the attack that began two weeks ago. The total casualty count is “considerably greater.”
The office stated that most civilian deaths were due to explosive weapons having a broad impact, which included shelling from heavy artillery and multiple-launch rocket systems as well missile and airstrikes.
