(Reuters) – American requests to export ammunition and firearms to Ukraine are being processed quickly by the U.S. Commerce Department on Wednesday.

Americans now have weapons to help Ukraine, after Volodymyr Zelenskiy, President of Russia, called for citizens to defend their country against invading Russian troops and promised that they would arm them.

According to the Commerce Department, Russia has been subject to export restrictions to prevent it from “sustaining military aggression.” Americans are advised to check regulations of agency agencies to determine if they need a license to transport specific weapons to Ukraine.

A spokesperson for the department stated that “the department processed requests quickly to export firearms and ammunition from Ukraine in accordance with its existing processes, authorities”

In response to Ukraine’s appeals for assistance, Americans have donated thousands of pieces of armor and million of rounds of ammunition.

Donors of equipment and volunteers from the U.S. for Ukraine’s Armed Forces must comply with U.S. export licensing requirements. This includes items such as military-grade bulletproof vests.

According to a U.S. volunteer, the airport control of volunteers with such body-armor appears to have relaxed.

Volunteer, who did not want to be identified, said that none of the people with plates carrying this week’s latest batch were stopped. He was speaking about the ceramic plates that are bullet-proof and make vests bulletproof.

Two Americans shipped military supplies from the United States to Ukraine. They asked for anonymity because they claimed to have received expedited export license approvals.

Bruce Blakeman from Nassau County, New York, sent President Joe Biden Wednesday a request for federal authorization to immediately ship 50 more rifles that he had collected in a donor drive to Ukraine.

Blakeman said that there is a lot legal gun ownership in America, which means people might have spare guns to help. He also noted that similar gun drives have attracted interest across the nation.
