U.K. officials sanction Roman Abramovich of Russia, long-standing ally of President Vladimir Putin and Chelsea FC’s outgoing owner.

British officials said that Abramovich was one of seven Russian businessmen who were added to their sanctions as they increase pressure on Russia over the invasion of Ukraine.

Oleg Derripaska, Dmitri Labedev and Igor Sechin are included in the new list.

Each of the seven men concerned will have their travel and assets restricted.

Boris Johnson, British Prime Minister said that there can’t be safe havens available for people who support Putin’s brutal attack on Ukraine.

This follows Ambramovich’s last week announcement that he was selling his Chelsea soccer team and a number of luxurious London properties as part of a massive sale of U.K assets.

The 55-year-old, whose wealth originally derives from the privatization of Russian industry, said at the time that the sale was in the “best interest of the club,” and that all net proceeds from the sale would be donated to victims of the war.

The U.K.’s sports ministry announced Thursday following the announcement of sanctions that it would continue to work with the club, and the wider football league, in order for matches to be played.
