Disney to pause Florida political donations over law limiting LGBTQ discussion -Breaking

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) -Walt Disney After employee protests over Florida legislation restricting discussion about LGBTQ issues at schools, Co has halted all political donations to Florida. Chief Executive Bob Chapek stated this in a memo sent Friday to employees.

Disney was criticized for not taking a strong stance against the bill, which critics claim will hurt the gay, lesbian, transgender, and queer communities. It employs over 65,000 workers at Walt Disney World (NYSE:) World resort.

Chapek stated, “Speaking with you, reading your emails, and meeting you have helped to better understand the pain of our silence.” “It’s clear that this isn’t just a Florida bill issue, it is an ongoing challenge to fundamental human right. My role was to support you and fight for equal rights. I failed to do that. I am sorry.”

Chapek promised to boost support for advocacy groups fighting similar legislation in other States. It is also reviewing its political giving.
