Polygon Layer-2 Ethereum scaling technology did not create a new block yesterday or today. The team assured that users’ funds and all on-chain data were safe.

Originally, the network was to experience some downtime starting at about 5:50 PM UTC yesterday, following an announcement on the project’s forum at 4:20 PM UTC that the team needed to perform maintenance on one of the network’s three layers.

The reason for the downtime was because it was believed that a recent upgrade might have affected the network’s ability to reach consensus. According to the forecast, the outage occurred at around 5:54 PM UTC.

The Polygon team updated the users later at 1:30 UTC today to inform them that the problem was still unresolved and they needed to deploy a temporary fix to temporarily assist the network with the creation of new blocks. The team successfully released the hotfix at around 4 AM UTC this morning, which restored operations on Polygon’s network.

Polygon users knew that there was an outage, and they started to feel disgruntled when it reached 6 hours. Others also pointed out how the disruption had affected their crypto businesses.

This isn’t the first bug in the Polygon network to make its way to the surface. This bug, which was the last one that they had solved, put funds worth $24 million at risk. Fortunately, the bug was fixed quickly and without any problems towards 2021.
