NEW YORK (Reuters] – Two individuals were stabbed in the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), midtown Manhattan, on Saturday. The victims were transported to a local hospital and treated for their injuries.

Official details regarding the late afternoon incident weren’t immediately available. A police officer answering media questions by telephone said that it wasn’t clear if anyone had been detained or identified.

The New York Post claimed that both victims were women and published separate photos showing them being transferred on gurneys to an ambulance waiting outside. The Post reported that the stabbing set off a chaotic scene, sending MoMA tourists running to their exits.

According to eyewitnesses who saw the incident via numerous social media posts that were cited by The Times, the police officers arrived at the crime scene and immediately went to the museum’s coatroom. MoMA’s collection of modern art is renowned for being one of the most important and influential in the world.
