Benedict Cumberbatch plans to take in Ukrainian refugees

Brits will be given £350 ($457) a month to house Ukrainians fleeing the war, according to a new government project being launched this week, with actor Benedict Cumberbatch also planning to play his part.

Staring as “Doctor Strange”, Cumberbatch told Sky NewsRed carpet interview on Sunday at the British Academy Film Awards, where he stated that all people should do their best to help Ukraine’s as Russia is continuing its unprovoked attack against the country.

Cumberbatch explained that he believes that the media has reported that there have been record numbers of volunteers to welcome people to their homes. He also said that he would donate to charity to aid people who are in need on the ground, either in Poland or over the border if safe.

UNHCR (United Nations Refugee Agency) stated Friday that UNHCR had estimated it to have more than 2.5 million refugees had fled Ukraine for neighboring countries.

Michael Gove from Britain shared information about the U.K. government’s Homes for Ukraine program in an interview BBC interviewThis Sunday. It will give Britons £350 a month to house Ukrainian refugees for a minimum of six months.

Gove announced that on Monday, the U.K. government will launch an online portal for Britons to register interest in the plan. On Friday, the process of matching refugees to U.K. housing homes begins. According to Gove, polls indicated that many Brits were willing to accept Ukrainian refugees.

Gove stated that he was looking into the possibility of accepting refugees.

On Sunday, 4,000 people had been granted U.K. visasThe Home Office reports that the Ukraine Family Scheme was implemented by the government. Gove predicted that Britain could accept “tens to thousands” of Ukrainian refugees.

He said that he would explore other options for using properties sanctioned by Russian oligarchs to “humanitarian or other purposes.”

The U.K. government published its weekly report last week added another seven Russian oligarchsIt will add them to its sanctions list and freeze their assets, as well as impose a travel ban.

Roman Abramovich (billionaire) is on the list and he wants to buy Chelsea football club in England. Abramovich’s portfolio of properties includes a Kensington mansion valued at £150 million and a Chelsea Waterfront penthouse bought for £22 million in 2018.

According to government records, Oleg Deripaska is another billionaire who owns a property portfolio worth multi-millions of pounds in the U.K.
