RAMALLAH (West Bank) – Israeli forces killed two Palestinians on Tuesday in the occupied West Bank. The Palestinian Health Ministry described the incident as clashes that broke out during a raid by Israeli security personnel to arrest suspected militants.

According to Israeli border police, an undercover officer was shot by a gunman during an operation at a refugee camp on the north West Bank. The officers responded, “neutralizing” him.

Border police claimed that hundreds of Palestinians threw large objects off rooftops in a second refugee camp close to Jerusalem. This put the troops at risk.

The cause of death for the Palestinians killed in that clash was unclear.

According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, there were no deaths. The incident was condemned by the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as an extra-judicial killing.

It stated in a statement that “These crimes constitute war crimes and offences against international law, which must be punished according to international law.”

Hazem Qassem (a spokesperson for Hamas’ ruling Palestinian Islamist Group Hamas) stated that Gaza was witness to a “new uprising” and that the fight is aimed at ending the occupation of this land.

Israel captured West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem in 1967 Middle East war. This is the territory where Palestinians are seeking statehood. 2014 was the end of the last round in peace negotiations.

Although the Palestinian Authority has limited autonomy in the West Bank under interim peace negotiations with Israel, in the 1990s it was created. But Israeli forces still dominate this area and frequently carry out raids in an attempt to capture militants.
