KYIV, Reuters – Ukraine’s capital Kyiv fell to Russian bombing overnight. The State Emergency Service released images on Tuesday showing a burned-out high-rise apartment building after the attack.

The fire crews attempted to put out the flames, and the rescue personnel helped evacuate the residents who were trapped using mobile ladders.

An emergency response team stated that there were two victims to the attack on a residential block. The exact block involved in the attack was unknown.

Reuters witnesses in another city saw people clearing away debris from their houses after shelling blew windows out, ruined balconies, and left other wreckage on the ground.

Although Kyiv was spared most of the fighting after Russia invaded Ukraine in February 24, the Russian military has begun to close in on Kyiv and has increased the level of shelling.

The conflict has resulted in thousands of deaths and many more people being displaced.

Russia denies attacking civilians and calls the actions of its military operations a special military operation to “denazify” Ukraine, an assertion that Ukraine and its allies rejected as pretext for an illegal and unjustified attack.
