U.S. VP Harris to headline summit to promote equal pay -Breaking

WASHINGTON (Reuters] – U.S. vice president Kamala Harris will hold a virtual summit Tuesday, celebrating Equal Pay Day. The summit will include announcements of steps to improve pay equity for employees of federal contractors and new federal employees.

Senior administration officials say Harris will be joined by Marty Walsh, Labor Secretary, and other former and current members of the United States women’s soccer team. Walsh was sued in 2019 over claims of discrimination in gender compensation. A $24-million settlement was reached by the team last month.

Office of Personnel Management plans to announce plans for a new rule that will address prior salary history during federal employee hiring and pay-setting.

U.S. President Joe Biden also signed an executive order to direct a council that oversees procurement policy to evaluate enhancing pay equity. This includes limiting or banning federal contractors from considering information on job applicants’ previous compensation in making employment decisions.
