Lyft to add 55 cent surcharge to each ride because of higher gas prices

LyftIt announced Wednesday that it would add a 55c surcharge per ride beginning next week to assist drivers who have higher gasoline prices.

According to the company, the surcharge would last at most 60 days. According to AAA data, Wednesday’s national average price for one gallon of gasoline was $4.305. A year ago, the national average was $2.873.

Drivers who have to fill their tanks themselves are being assisted by ridesharing and delivery services. Drivers may be tempted to leave for better work because their pay has dropped due to rising costs. In order to attract drivers, ride-share companies would have to reintroduce expensive incentive programs if there are too many of them.

Lyft announced in a blog post that it will pay the fuel surcharge to offset rising costs. Lyft first said MondayYou would be charged a surcharge.

Except for New York City (which raised the minimum earning standard for drivers) and Nevada (which Lyft claimed regulatory constraints prevent them from implementing the surcharge immediately), the surcharge will apply to all other areas.

There are also ways to earn cash back for gas. In the U.S., drivers can apply for Lyft’s debit card and get an increased 4-5% cashback on gas through June 30, it said. GetUpside partners with the company to offer cash-back opportunities.

Food delivery company DoorDashIt said Tuesday that it would launch a cash-back programThe company aims to keep the costs from being passed on to customers. All U.S. delivery driver will receive 10% cashback on gasoline through their prepaid Visa debit card. This program will run until April and begins on March 17.

Lyft competitors UberAfter drivers complained, Uber was the first company to introduce fuel surcharges. Uber riders will be charged $0.45- $0.55 per Uber trip, for a minimum of two months. Uber Eats delivery will be charged a surcharge of $0.35- $0.45
