(Reuters) –Alnylam Pharmaceuticals Inc stated Thursday that it filed separate lawsuits at the Delaware federal courts against Pfizer Inc (NYSE 🙂 Moderna (NASDAQ) Inc., seeking damages in respect of infringement of a patent for the production and sale their mRNA COVID-19 vaccinations.

Alnylam claimed it wanted compensation for the use of its lipid-nanoparticles (LNP), technology which carries and delivers RNA based therapeutics to the body.

Moderna and Pfizer’s vaccines violate Alnylam’s patent by using a lipid that has been formulated into LNPs to protect and deliver vaccines’ DNA, according to the pharmaceutical company.

Moderna was sued by Arbutus Biopharma Corp (NASDAQ:) last month in Delaware Federal Court. Moderna claimed that Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccination violates its patents.

Alnylam indicated that they do not plan to interfere with the manufacture, sale, or distribution vaccines.
