PARIS, (Reuters) – U.S. tech company Microsoft (NASDAQ;) is currently facing an antitrust case filed by three European counterparts. The suit was brought in relation to the booming cloud computing market.
A complaint filed by Microsoft to the European Union’s Competition Watchdog, months back, claims that Microsoft’s contract and business practices make cloud computing service users unable to switch to services of a rival. This is according to a source who was close to the matter.
OVHcloud, a French cloud computing service provider, stated that it joined the Microsoft lawsuit. The spokesperson declined to identify the names of two European plaintiffs.
OVHcloud stated that Microsoft abuses its dominant position to limit competition and restrict consumer choices in the market for cloud computing services.
The Wall Street Journal reported the news first.
Without elaborating, the European Commission acknowledged that it received a complaint.
A spokesperson for Microsoft stated, “We are continuously evaluating how best to support partners and make Microsoft Software available to customers across any environments including other cloud providers,” in response to an email asking for comment.
