Supreme Court hopeful Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson will begin Monday four-days of Senate confirmation hearings as she tries to be the first Black woman to ascend to the top court.

Jackson (51 years old) will make an opening statement following remarks by the 22 committee members. The hearing will begin at 11 AM. ET.

Jackson currently serves on the U.S. Court of Appeals in the District of Columbia Circuit. But, the lawmakers will not ask Jackson until Tuesday.

She is likely to face a slew of Republican questions about her philosophy and judicial record when she makes that announcement. Jackson has been criticized by some GOP senators for her stances regarding issues such as court packing and the sentencing criminals of those convicted on child-pornography charges.

Monday’s Judiciary Committee session follows a disclosure by the Supreme Court that Clarence Thomas is its longest-serving justice. had been hospitalized on Friday with an infection.

Jackson, if confirmed, would replace Justice Stephen Breyer who is retiring. Jackson’s confirmation would see the replacement of one liberal justice by another and preserve the court’s conservative 6-3 majority.

Joe Biden, President nominated Jackson to the Supreme CourtIn February

Jackson served as a member of the D.C. Since last year, Jackson has served on the D.C. Circuit appeals Court, which is one of the most prominent appeals courts in America. All Democrat senators supported her, as well as three Republicans.
