White House warns U.S. companies about ‘preparatory’ Russian hacking -senior official -Breaking

(Reuters) – A senior White House cybersecurity officer Anne Neuberger stated Monday that U.S. critical infrastructure providers should strengthen their cyber defenses in light of Russian digital threats.

Neuberger stated that the U.S. government had seen Russian hacking activities aimed at many U.S. businesses, but there is no guarantee such an attack would occur.

Neuberger reported that hundreds of U.S.-based companies may be targeted in Russia by Russian hackers were provided with classified briefings recently by the Administration.

The White House also published a written statement on Monday from President Joe Biden where he warned that Moscow may lash out with cyberattacks because of the “unprecedented economic costs we’ve imposed on Russia.”

Neuberger stated that this warning is based upon “evolving threats intelligence.”
