WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – Dr. Anthony Fauci of the U.S. Department of Infectious Diseases stated Tuesday that he wouldn’t be surprised to observe an increase in cases COVID-19 in America but he doesn’t expect a significant surge.
Fauci said that he would be not surprised if there was an increase in activity, as he stated at a Washington Post conference. I don’t see a significant surge unless there is a dramatic change.
Fauci explained that coronavirus cases are expected to rise due to increased transmission by the BA.2 Omicron subvariant. Also, mask wearing requirements have been relaxed and immunity is waning in the general population.
Fauci stated that the United States follows by weeks the COVID-19 pattern as seen in Britain.
He said, “What the UK doesn’t see, and that is good news,” an increase or decrease in ICU use or an increase for all-cause deaths.
