MILAN (Reuters), Maserati has taken the wraps off the new Grecale sport utility vehicle (SUV). This is yet another milestone in Maserati’s turnaround plan to expand its range.

The launch of this new model was originally scheduled for November 2013. However, it was delayed by a shortage in global chips.

Maserati (the luxury brand Stellantis) announced the Grecale would become available in second-half this year in three versions: two 300horse-powered mild hybrids and one 300horse-powered 4-cylinder four-cylinder. There will also be a petrol V6 that can reach speeds of up to 285 km/h.

Davide Grasso, Chief Executive Officer has stated that deliveries will begin in the summer in EMEA and continue in the United States.

The Grecale has a length of 4.859m and a starting price between 74,000 and 111,000 euro ($81,000 to $1122,000). It will be competitive with models such as Porsche’s Cayenne, Macan and Mercedes’ GLE.

The car’s full-electric counterpart will also be offered next year. This increases the number of possible competitors to Tesla (NASDAQ).

Named after a wind like Maserati Levante its older sister, the Grecale is made at Stellantis’ Cassino Plant in central Italy.

Maserati aspires to provide a full-electric, so-called Folgore’ version of every model – which includes the over 200,000 Euro super-sport car MC20 – by 2025. It will also be fully electric by 2030.

GranTurismo will be its first BEV (battery electric vehicle) and it is expected to make its debut in front of the Grecale on 2023.
