(Reuters] – Russian Court sentenced Alexei Navalny on Tuesday to 9 years prison for fraud convictions. It is a decision that will ensure President Vladimir Putin’s prominent opposition remains out of active politics over the coming years.

Navalny was also found guilty by contempt of the court. Navalny is now serving a sentence of two-and-a half years in prison east of Moscow for parole violation charges related to accusations he believes were faked up to defeat his political ambitions.

Navalny was also penalized by the court with 1.2 million rubles ($11,535). He has pleaded not guilty to the most recent criminal case.
