BALTIMORE, Md. (Reuters) – Top officials in trade from Britain and the United States ended two days worth of discussions on deepening trade relations. The meeting will be held again in Scotland in March, Anne-Marie Trevelyan, British Trade Minister, told reporters Tuesday.

When asked if allies would resume formal negotiations for a free trade accord, U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai stated that she wouldn’t prejudge what the outcome of the talks, but added that such agreements were “very 20th-century tools”, and suggested it was crucial to seek creative, innovative solutions when faced with new challenges.

Tai stated that trade relations should not be approached in a “one-size fits all” manner. The United States and Britain share particular values.

Trevelyan confirmed that Britain is ready for a free-trade agreement, and added that they were able “to think about where our relationship should be heading… how to build that 21st-century trading relationship between two great nations who share these shared values.”
