He was allowed consular access to her that day.
Griner is an Olympic gold medalist, and All-Star football player. He was detained by Russia in the midst of increased tensions after Russia’s invasion Ukraine.
Russian authorities have been pressed by the State Department for entry to the sporting star.
Price told CNN in an interview that an official of our embassy was granted consular access Brittney Griner “within the past few hours,” Price explained.
Brittney Griner has been declared in good condition by an official. We will make every effort to ensure she is dealt fairly during this process.”
The WNBA stated last week that it is working with the U.S government to free Griner after the TASS news agency reported Griner’s detention in connection with vape cartridges containing cannabis oil was extended up until May 19.
Griner’s exact time of detention was unclear, however it was reported after Russia’s invasion in Ukraine on February 24, 2017.
Griner, who won Olympic gold medals in Rio with the U.S. team in 2016, and 2021 respectively, is now a seven-time All Star. For the Phoenix Mercury, she is the center.
